EXPERIENCE
Chaundra Lewis is a Henry County State Court Judge, with jurisdiction to hear misdemeanors, including traffic violations, and civil matters not reserved exclusively for the superior courts.
Prior to joining the Henry County State Court bench, she served as Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney in the Henry County District Attorney’s Office, where she was responsible for prosecuting felony and misdemeanor offenses. Judge Lewis also previously served as the Deputy Chief Assistant Solicitor General in both the Fulton and Clayton County Solicitor General's Offices, where she was responsible for prosecuting misdemeanor offenses. She has served as a Staff Attorney for the late Honorable Morris Braswell, in the State Court of Clayton County, and worked in the private practice of law, gaining experience as a civil litigator and criminal defense attorney. Judge Lewis is licensed to practice law in the State of Georgia and the State of Tennessee.
Judge Lewis is a native of Memphis, Tennessee, where she graduated from Kirby High School. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Spelman College, in Atlanta, Georgia. She earned her Juris Doctor from The University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphries School of Law and began the practice of law in Georgia in 1998.
SERVICE
Judge Lewis has always been devoted to the communities in which she has lived. Her community activism began in law school, when she worked with Memphis Area Legal Services. She continued her service after law school by tutoring youth, participating in life skills programs for women in transition, and volunteering at assisted living facilities. Judge Lewis has served on the Board of Directors for Connecting Clayton, Grassroots Leadership Institute, Secur'us House, Family Support Circle and Miracle Mission Hope House. She currently serves as a board member for Gigi’s House, a faith-based home dedicated to serving girls ages 13-19 who are victims of sex trafficking.
Judge Lewis is committed to leadership, and has completed McDonough 101, has served on the Steering Committee for the McDonough Youth Advisory Council and is a graduate of both Leadership Clayton and Leadership Henry. She actively serves her community through her membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Psi Alpha Omega Chapter, where she is an immediate past Connection and Social Action Co-Chair, where she was responsible for voter information and education. She is also an active member of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Lake Spivey Georgia Chapter, where she serves as Lead Teen Sponsor. In that role, she oversees teen programming geared toward health, education, financial literacy and community service.
FAMILY
Judge Lewis has been married to her husband, Kevin, for 23 years. They live in McDonough, with their three daughters, Kennedy, Lauryn and Chandler.
